Upgrade
An upgrade is the process of moving software to a higher version in order to adopt new features, bug fixes and security updates. Unlike smaller updates, an upgrade can involve technical changes, such as to an interface or the data structure. For that reason, the version change is usually tested first in a separate test environment, including the integration of add-ons and connected systems, before the productive environment is switched over. Before the change, a full backup is created so that a rollback is possible if problems occur. After successful testing, the upgrade is implemented in the productive environment so that the new functions can be used reliably.
